It Starts with a Conversation

May You Pray –
to Know Jesus Better Today!

To Know Jesus Better Today

First, Seek Him...

In this discipleship conversation, we continue our “May You Pray” series, this week focusing on the prayer to know Jesus better. Why is this important? What difference does it make? Seek Him today about this in your life!

...Then Speak Him

As you Seek Jesus about knowing Him better, talk to those entrusted to you about this, too. Why should they know Jesus? Why is He important in life? Pray for those in your life to know Jesus better, then encourage them in this through intentional conversation!

Ephesians 1:17
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ…may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

There are lots of wonderful people to know in this world, and we want to be good friends to those God places in our lives. However, the person we want to know more than anybody is Jesus! When the Apostle Paul prayed for his friends in Ephesus, his greatest desire was that they would know Jesus better. We can follow Paul’s example by praying for our friends and family to know Jesus better, too.  ~ Who are some people that you know really well? Do you know Jesus well? What do you know about Him?

God, why does this matter?

When you really know somebody, you are able to recognize them. You know what they’re like, what their personality is, what their character traits are. This is true in the human realm, and it’s true with Jesus, too! The more we know Jesus, the more we recognize when He is speaking to our hearts, leading us and showing us how He wants us to live. Knowing Jesus impacts every part of our lives. We want to experience real relationship with Him, and we want other people to know Him, too! ~ Let’s talk about how we know one another. How do we recognize each other? How do we recognize who Jesus is?

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Did you know that Jesus prayed for us to know Him? Just before His crucifixion, the Bible says that: “He looked toward heaven and prayed… ‘This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent’” (John 17:1-3). Jesus wants us to know Him! The question is:  do we want to know Him? Paul wrote, “I want to know Christ” (Philippians 3:10a). Do you? ~ What’s the big deal about knowing Jesus? What is there to know about Him? What happens if you don’t want to know Him or be in relationship with Him? What do you choose?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

The prophet Hosea wrote, “Let us press on to know the Lord” (6:3). There’s a difference between knowing the facts about Jesus in our heads and knowing Him with our hearts. We want to know the Lord with all our hearts, souls and minds, and we want others to know Him these ways, too. ~ Let’s pray about this for each other! Let’s memorize this week’s verse (Ephesians 1:17) and say it with last week’s verse (1:16).

Ephesians 1:17
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ…may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”
