SEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives!

During our May You Pray conversations, we want to Start with Praise and then Pray for People Each Day. As we do this, the most important thing we can pray for them is that they would Know Jesus Better Today. How do we get to know Jesus and help others know Him too? Listen in to this podcast introduction called “May You Pray to Know Jesus Better Today.”  Then, let’s spend time with Jesus in His Word and “Seek Him” in our next theme verse in Ephesians 1:17.

WHAT:  What is God saying through this Scripture?

The Apostle Paul surely prayed many things for his friends in Ephesus. However, one of his greatest desires was that they would know Jesus better. For his friends to experience this, Paul asked God to give them two supernatural gifts:  wisdom and revelation. As with all his prayers, Paul didn’t just pray once about this but kept asking God for these gifts for them. ~ How well do you know Jesus? What are some things you know about Him? When you pray, what do you keep asking God for?

WHY:  Why does this Scripture matter?

Wisdom helps us see life from God’s perspective, while revelation gives us clarity and discernment about what we cannot see. The Apostle Paul said, “I want to know Christ” (Philippians 3:10a). Thing is, there’s a huge difference between knowing facts about Jesus in our heads and really knowing Him with our hearts. God’s supernatural gifts of wisdom and revelation are what help the facts about Jesus become faith in Him. ~ How much do you want to know Christ? What are you willing to invest in knowing Him more? Who would you love to have a divine encounter with Jesus today?

HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth?

There is a world full of people who do not want to experience God’s wisdom and revelation. Sadly, knowing Jesus does not matter to them. However, He matters to us, right? So, let’s pray for the blessings of wisdom and revelation both for ourselves and for those we care about! ~ Who in your life needs to know Jesus better? Take a moment to specifically pray for wisdom and revelation – for both them and you! Take a moment to pray through and memorize our theme verse.

SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others!

Did you know that Jesus Himself prayed for us to know Him? Just before His crucifixion, “He looked toward heaven and prayed… ‘This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent’” (John 17:1-3). Just like Jesus prayed for us to know Him, during May You Pray, let’s be sure to pray for others to know Him better too! So, who does God want you to pray for right now? Maybe that person is an unbeliever, a prodigal, someone who’s walked away from the Lord, or a nation that needs missionaries? Pray as God leads you for people to know Him better!
