It Starts with a Conversation

Write // Read // Run

First, Seek Him...

New beginnings can be wonderful, and a new year is a great time to pause and listen to what God is saying to you about your life. Let this conversation encourage you to pause and pray and seek the Lord about what He has for you this new year.

...Then Speak Him

As you seek Him in your own life, teach those entrusted to you to do the same. Whether it’s in a journal, a Bible margin or a piece of paper, disciple your people to listen to God for what He is calling each of them to this year!

Habakkuk 2:2
“The LORD answered me: “Write the vision and make it plain on the tablets, so he may run who reads it.’”

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

In ancient times, runners would wait to hear the message of the ruler or king. Once they got it, they would run to deliver that message wherever it was to go. Though Habakkuk was not a literal runner, he was a prophet who waited for God’s message so that he could say and do whatever God had for him. Habakkuk is a great example for us to listen, then “write // read // run” as we begin a new year. ~ How might you listen for what God has to say to you in this new season? Are you doing that?

God, why does this matter?

As Christ followers, we want to go where He is leading. We don’t want to “run” just anywhere with our lives; we want to “run” with His calling for our lives. The phrase “write the vision” could include writing down what we feel like the LORD is speaking to us about this year. Journaling creates a record of what He is saying to us, not just for today but for the days and months to come! ~ Are you willing to run where Jesus tells you to run? Do you have any thoughts about what He might be saying to you about this new year?

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Hebrews says, “Let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus…” (12:1b-2a). Living for God and running with His purpose is seldom easy. There is a lot of weight in life, and we all struggle with sin. However, as we look to Jesus, He will give us the strength and ability to run our race well for Him this year. ~ What’s it like to run carrying weights? Do you have any weight you’re carrying right now that we should pray about and give to the LORD?  You can trade your weight or struggle for His endurance; is that a good trade-off to you?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

As we begin a new year, it’s a great time to seek the Lord about how He’d have us live for Him. Our God is a mighty King who is on the move in this world, and we get the privilege of being on His team and running the race for Him. Let’s pray together, then maybe spend some time journaling, about what we hear Him speaking to us about this new year.

Habakkuk 2:2
“The LORD answered me: “Write the vision and make it plain on the tablets, so he may run who reads it.’”
