THE GOSPEL GIFT: Truth #4: We See and Receive God’s Gift to Us

THE GOSPEL GIFT: Truth #4: We See and Receive God’s Gift to Us

First, Seek Him...

Simeon of old was overjoyed when he got to physically see God’s gift to us in Jesus. We can see Jesus, too, with our spiritual eyes. What does this mean to you? How have you seen God’s gift of Jesus in your life? Seek Him about this today!

...Then Speak Him

We have the privilege of teaching the next generation how to have eyes of faith, to see and receive God’s gift of salvation. This Christmas, as we conclude this Advent series, talk to those entrusted to you about this. Review the four truths of this Advent series. Speak Him!

Simeon’s words in Luke 2:30-32
“My eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentles, and for glory to your people Israel.”

Word

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

We love to watch for presents under the Christmas tree and think about the gifts that await us. In the Christmas story, an old priest named Simeon watched for Jesus’ birth his whole life. When he finally got to see baby Jesus and receive Him to hold in his arms, Simeon rejoiced that Jesus is God’s light to the world, presence with us and salvation gift for us. Simeon reminds us of our 4th truth in “The Gospel Gift” Advent series:  We see and receive God’s gift of salvation. ~ What do you love about seeing presents under the tree? What do you have to do to get those gifts? What part of Simeon’s words stand out to you?

Why

God, why does this matter?

The whole world sees Christmas as a special holiday, but we see that it is so much more than that. Christmas is about God’s gift of salvation through Jesus. Though we cannot see Jesus with our physical eyes like Simeon did, we can see Him with our spiritual eyes and receive His presence into our lives today. This matters for Christmas, for life and for eternity. ~ What are our spiritual eyes? How are these different than our physical eyes? How do we see Jesus with our spiritual eyes?

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Jesus came into our world as a baby, but He grew up to die on the cross as our Savior. He told His followers: “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29 NIV). When Jesus said this, He was talking about US! It’s one thing to hear about or watch for God’s gift of salvation; it’s another thing to have eyes to see “The Gospel Gift” and receive it. ~ Have you received “The Gospel Gift” and accepted God’s salvation? Why or why not? Let’s talk about this!

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:8-9). We worship God by seeing Jesus with our spiritual eyes and receiving in Him into our hearts by faith. The joy and salvation we experience with Him is what Christmas is all about! ~ As we conclude our Advent series, can you tell us the four truths of “The Gospel Gift”? What do these mean to you? Let’s ask God to help us remember these at Christmas and always!

Simeon’s words in Luke 2:30-32
“My eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
