Walking- God’s Path

First, Seek Him...

God calls you to walk with Him, but He doesn’t force you to stay by His side. He welcomes you, and then you choose how you’re going to respond each step of the way. Will you walk with Him today, in His Word, in prayer, in worship and action?

...Then Speak Him!

As you walk with the Lord, you can invite your people to walk with Him, too. Discipleship is taking others along with you on your Jesus journey, so that they learn what it means to walk with Him. Seek Him Speak Him – – – today!

What Can We Learn About This Truth?

What Else Does the Bible Say About This Truth?

God calls people to walk with Him. The stories of Israel and Judah’s kings – found in 1st and 2nd Samuel, Kings and Chronicles – are great examples of this. King Saul was Israel’s first king. He started out walking with God, but, very quickly, he quit following God’s path. So God took the throne away from him and gave it to King David. Though King David was not perfect, he loved God and walked with Him. The book of Psalms is full of praises and prayers that King David wrote; we can still sing, say and pray these today!

After David, God told his son Solomon, “…if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you, and keeping my statutes and my rules, then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever…” (1 Kings 9:4-5a). Solomon chose to walk with God. The books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon are full of the wisdom God gave him.

After Solomon died, God offered His blessing to the future kings of Israel and Judah. The books of Kings and Chronicles are a steady story of who chose to walk with God and who did not. Back and forth, back and forth, every generation and every person made their choice.

What about you? Will you “walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever”? (Micah 4:5).  If so, God’s response to you is: “I am your sun and shield; I bestow favor and honor. No good thing will I withhold from you who walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11, paraphrased).

How Can We Live Out This Truth?

The “Walking” section is about asking God how He wants us to live out the truths we’ve learned. Sometimes this is an attitude change, or an action, or a practice toward a new habit. Walking is living out what God is teaching us and telling us to do. Ephesians 2:10 says, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” So, how does God want us to walk with Him today?
