It Starts with a Conversation

Thanksgiving Conversations: The Peace of Thanksgiving

First, Seek Him...

When we shift our attention to God and SEEK Him, our mind shifts away from our worries and concerns. In turn we experience His promise of peace. This week as you go about your daily comings and goings, make it a point to turn your focus from worries to thoughts of thanksgiving.

...Then Speak Him

As you seek His peace this week – SPEAK it!  You are a living example to those entrusted to you. How you respond to the circumstances of your day represents the peace you are experiencing with Him.

Philippians 4:6b-7
“…Through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Word

God, What Are You Saying To Me?

As you pray and give thanks, I promise to give you peace.

Discover: When we pray and give thanks, we experience God’s promise of peace. As we shift our attention to Him, He promises to “guard our hearts and minds.”

Dialogue: What is on your mind today? Is there something you are worried, anxious or scared about? Share what is happening in your life right now – then stop to consider: have you taken time to present these requests to God with thanksgiving?

Dive In: A petition is often a written request, so write out your prayer requests for today – on a paper, on your phone, wherever. Turn these prayer requests into praises by thanking God for what He’s going to do in your life.

Philippians 4:6b-7
“…Through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Why

 God, Why Does This Matter?

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything…with thanksgiving, present your requests to God…”  (Philippians 4:6)

Discover: We live in an anxiety-filled world, but, when we do worry, we open the door to the enemy’s attack. The only way to protect ourselves from anxiety is to present the things we worry about to God. He promises peace that protects our emotions and thoughts when we pray with thanksgiving.

Dialogue: What makes you anxious? Think of God as your Guard – protecting how you feel and what you think. How does that change the way you feel? How does that change the way you think?

Dive In: Next time you feel worry creeping in – STOP – pray, give thanks and claim His promise of peace. God answers prayer, and He is our Guard protecting us. This is something we can be thankful for!

Philippians 4:6b-7
“…Through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

…Present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6b-7)

Discover: When our minds are centered on God, He gives us perfect peace that is beyond our limited understanding.

Dialogue: Talk about how can you recenter your mind on Christ when anxious feelings and thoughts begin to take your focus away from Him.

Dive In: Journaling is a great way to get worry-some thoughts out of your head and replace them with promises from His Word. Make a “Promise Journal” and write down His promises that replace your worries with peace.

Philippians 4:6b-7
“…Through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

So then, let us pursue what promotes peace and what builds up one another.” Romans 14:19

Discover: To promote means to “actively encourage.” Worship is one way we actively encourage our hearts and minds to be at peace.

Dialogue: What are some ways we can actively encourage each other through worship and thanksgiving?

Dive In: Let’s promote peace and thankfulness in all that we say and do through living thankful, prayerful lives today!
