It Starts with a Conversation

God Gives Us Power

First, Seek Him...

Fear surrounds us in this world, but fear does not have to be IN us. God’s Word clearly teaches us how God wants us to respond to fear. Whatever fear is surrounding you today, SEEK the LORD about how to live with His gifts of power, love and sound judgment.

...Then Speak Him

You don’t need to INTRODUCE fear to talk to those entrusted to you ABOUT fear. Let your kids tell you what they’re worried about, then teach them what God’s Word says about being afraid. God gives us power over our fears – SPEAK HIM today!
2 Timothy 1:7
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and sound judgment.”

God, what are you saying to me?

Fear is everywhere around us, and the unknown can fill us with dread and worry. We don’t have to live in fear, though! God gives us “power, love and sound judgment.” His gifts help us overcome fear through the power of self-discipline, loving others and wise decision making. Is there something you’re afraid about right now? What is one practical way you can use the power God gives you against fear today?

God, why does this matter?

Fear can cause us to be irrational and make foolish choices. We don’t want to live this way, though. We want to make wise choices! God’s gifts of power and sound judgment help us think through things from His perspective. Then we can take action out of faith instead of fear. How you can use the sound judgment He gives you to make a good choice in the midst of fear today?

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

The Greek word for “fear” in our verse means cowardice. The opposite of cowardice is courage, which is boldness in the presence of fear. Scripture says, Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9 NIV).  The power to be courageous comes from the Lord! He is with us! His power helps us be able to choose how we respond to fear. In what area of your life can you use His power to be more courageous today?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

We fear because we don’t have complete control over the unknown. However, we worship the Almighty God who knows everything. His Spirit guides us into the future (John 16:13), and His power is at work in and through us (Ephesians 3:20). We can worship Him by using the gifts He gives us and trusting Him. As we do this, we can then love others through their fears and point them to our Almighty God. Who does God want you to love and encourage in His Name today? How will you do this?

2 Timothy 1:7
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and sound judgment.”
