It Starts with a Conversation

Most Important Things –
Love

First, Seek Him...

Have you ever stopped to think about what’s the most important thing to God? As you go through this conversation, seek the Lord about what is first and greatest to Him so that you can make it first and greatest to you.

...Then Speak Him

As you “Seek Him” about the important important thing in life, “Speak Him” to those entrusted to you about it. How does your family live with “20/20 Vision” in love? Let the conversation begin!

Matthew 22:37,39
“Jesus replied, ‘LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘LOVE your neighbor as yourself.’”

Word

God, What Are You Saying To Me?

Discover:  In Bible times, a man asked Jesus which command was most important. Jesus said the greatest command is to love God and the second greatest is to love people (Matthew 22:34-39). These are the most important things to God.

Dialogue: Have you ever wondered what’s most important to God? If God’s greatest command is to love Him with ALL “your heart, soul and mind,” with how much of yourself do you love Him? What are some ways we can better show our love for Him?

Dive In: God wants us to be “all in” to loving Him. What are you most “into” right now? Let’s pray we’ll be “all in” to loving God.

Matthew 22:37,39
“Jesus replied, ‘LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘LOVE your neighbor as yourself.’”

Why

 God, Why Does This Matter?

DiscoverJesus said loving God and others matters because everything in the Bible hangs on love (Matthew 22:40). This means love is REALLY important to our faith!

Dialogue: Talk about a time you played on a tree swing. Was it fun? Probably! The very most important thing about that swing was not the seat or the ropes, though. The most important thing was the branch that supported everything hanging on it, including the swing and you. In the same way, Jesus said love holds up the whole Bible.

Dive In:  Let’s get a Bible and thumb through the chapters and books. There’s a lot in there! How important does it feel that everything in the Bible is held up by love?

Matthew 22:37,39
“Jesus replied, ‘LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘LOVE your neighbor as yourself.’”

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Discover: 1 Corinthians 13:13 talks about faith, hope and love, then ends:  “The greatest of these is love.” The importance of love is repeated over and over in God’s Word. God loves us, and He wants us to love Him and others. Scripture says “The one who loves God must also love his brother and sister” (1 John 4:21).

Dialogue: Loving God and others is the greatest thing we can do. What are some decisions you have made to love like it’s the most important thing in your life? How do you show how much you love God by how much you love others?

Dive In:  Read 1 John 4:7-21 together. Listen to what God says to you about love, then pray for one another to love the way He wants us to.

Matthew 22:37,39
“Jesus replied, ‘LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘LOVE your neighbor as yourself.’”

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

DiscoverJesus wants love to be so important in our lives that it is the 20/20 lens through which we see and do everything. We’re never going to love God or others perfectly, but we can still choose for love to be the “most important thing” in our lives.

Dialogue:  Asking forgiveness and apologizing are two ways we can get back on the right track with love. Do you have forgiveness to ask or an apology to make? How is God speaking to you about love right now? Is there something He wants you to do?

Dive In:  Because love is so important to God, we know that being loving is a way we worship Him. Let’s pray dedicating our love to the Lord and asking His help in loving others.

A Family Blessing

A Blessing from this Lesson to Speak over Those God has Entrusted to You!

“My heart’s desire is that you will love God and others so much. May you always look to Jesus for 20/20 vision for your life, making what’s most important to Him most important to you. In His Name, amen!”
