Most Important Things –
20/20 Vision

First, Seek Him...

As a new year begins, it’s a great time to focus our vision on what is best to God. We want what matters most to Him to matter most to us, and the Bible teaches that faith, hope and love matter most to Him!

...Then Speak Him

As you consider your own goals or resolutions for this new year, talk to your loved ones about how they will live this new year. God wants us to focus on faith, hope and love. Encourage your family to think through what these looks like in their lives!

1 Corinthians 13:13
“Now these three remain: FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. But the greatest of these is love.”

Word

God, What Are You Saying To Me?

Discover: 20/20 vision is the best vision. The beginning of a new year is a great time to focus our vision on what is best to God. What matters most to Him should matter most to us, and the Bible teaches that faith, hope and love matter most to Him!

Dialogue: How does the eye doctor help us get better vision? How do we get better “vision” for what’s important to God? Let’s talk about some examples of what faith, hope and love look like in our personal lives.

Dive In: We can download this verse image to our devices/screensavers or print it off and post it where we can all see it. Let’s remind ourselves to have 20/20 vision, not just with our eyes but with our lives, for the Lord this year!

1 Corinthians 13:13
“Now these three remain: FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. But the greatest of these is love.”

Why

 God, Why Does This Matter?

Discover: In life, there are lots of good things to focus on:  things like diet and exercise, saving money and paying attention in school. We should do our best in these because they are good things. However, only a few things are most important. As we set our priorities for the new year, God wants faith, hope and love to be most important in our lives.

Dialogue: What is a “priority”? What are some good things we focus on? What are some of the best things we can focus on? What might it look like for faith, hope and love to be our priority?

Dive In: Take a moment to pray, then write down some of your dreams, goals and priorities for this new year. Think about how these reflect faith, hope and love in your priorities.

1 Corinthians 13:13
“Now these three remain: FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. But the greatest of these is love.”

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Discover: The Apostle Paul honored the Thessalonian church, saying:  We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Thessalonians 1:3 (NIV) A life lived with faith, hope and love is a life worth remembering!

Dialogue: In looking back on last year, how were faith, hope and love part of your life? Do you remember some moments when you made what’s most important to God most important to you?

Dive In: How we spend our time is how we spend our lives. Choose a way that you will intentionally reflect faith, hope or love today and practice every day this new year.

1 Corinthians 13:13
“Now these three remain: FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. But the greatest of these is love.”

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

Discover: We are encouraged to “Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him…” (Colossians 1:10a ESV). There’s no time like the present to decide to “fully please” God with lives full of faith, hope and love.

Dialogue: The Bible says, “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24 NIV). How can we encourage one another in making God’s priorities our priorities this year?

Dive In: We’re going to talk more about faith, hope and love in the weeks to come. For now, let’s start 2020 with 20/20 vision to live fully pleasing to Jesus! Let’s pray right now entrusting our priorities, our lives, our dreams and everything about us to the Lord.

A Family Blessing

A Blessing from this Lesson to Speak over Those God has Entrusted to You!

“As you set your sight on 20/20 vision, ‘May the God of peace…equip you with everything good that you may do His will (and be) pleasing in His sight…’ (Hebrews 13:20-21) In Jesus’ Name, amen!”
