May You Pray –
for HOPE Along the Way!
First, Seek Him...
Life can be hard, but Christ-followers do not have to live without hope. Scripture calls us to hope in the Lord, and in this discipleship conversation, we focus on praying for hope in our own lives and in the lives of others. Seek Him today about the hope you need!
...Then Speak Him
How can we be people of hope and encourage others? The Apostle Paul prayed for those entrusted to him to have hope, and he talked to them about it – – – basically, he discipled them about hope. We can do that, too, as we “Speak Him” to those in our lives.

Ephesians 1:18
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened…that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people”
Word
God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?
We live in a world filled with hopelessness. Many people are depressed, anxious or sad; some even want to give up on life. However, as Christians, God invites us to look beyond what our physical eyes can see to the hope of what He has for us. Paul prayed for his friends to know God’s hope, and we can pray for hope along the way, too! ~ Do you know anyone struggling with hopelessness? Are you struggling this way? What’s the difference between what your physical eyes can see and what “the eyes of your heart” see?
Why
God, why does this matter?
No matter what is happening in us or around us, we don’t have to live in despair or sadness. God has prepared a “glorious inheritance” for His people. We may have ordinary lives and plenty of struggles and problems now. However, God promised “ his holy people” so much more. With the “eyes of your heart” you can look forward to what God has in store for you. ~ Do you feel more hope or despair right now? What do your physical eyes see? What does your heart see? What hope does God want you to look forward to?
What
God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?
The Apostle Paul prayed: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). To overflow with hope means to have so much that it pours out on others, too! What a good thing to pray for! ~ What happens when a water faucet fills a cup to overflowing? What happens when your hope overflows? Who in your life could use some hope today? According to Romans 15:13, what does God ask us to do in order to be filled with hope, joy and peace? If trust turns on the “faucet” of hope, will you trust God in your life today?
Worship
God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23). We can trust God to give us the hope He promised, and we can pray for more hope along the way! ~ Let’s pray for hope right now! Also, let’s memorize this week’s verse (Ephesians 1:18) and say it along with the past couple of weeks’ verses (Ephesians 1:16-17). We’ll have one more “May You Pray” verse next week!
Ephesians 1:18
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened…that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people”
