It Starts with a Conversation
Love Story: Making it My Story
First, Seek Him...
Everybody loves a great story, but not everybody’s love IS a great story. What does love look like in YOUR life? Truth is, sometimes we all need a reset when it comes to love – – – and there’s no time like the present to seek God and let Him speak into our lives about this!
...Then Speak Him
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”
God, what are you saying to me?
Jesus told us to “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39), and then His Word tells us in 1 Corinthians 13 how to do this. For our lives to be great stories of love, we want to pay attention to these details about love, which we’ll talk a lot about in the days to come. For now, let’s each share a story about when we’ve felt truly loved. What about these stories made us feel so loved?
God, why does this matter?
What love really is and isn’t can be confusing! The world has so many different ideas about love, and the dictionary gives us lots of definitions of love, too. But the Bible tells us what God says love is – – – and it’s more than a feeling or emotion. Love is an attitude that we put into action. From 1 Corinthians 13, what is one loving attitude that you will put into action in your story today? This matters because love matters!
God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?
Jesus said people would know we are His disciples by our love for one another (John 13:35 ESV). Do people know YOU are a Christian by the way you treat them? How do we show love – at school, at work, at home, in the car, in our family? Is our love for others any different because we belong to Jesus? Let’s be honest about ways we have treated each other, and let’s pray for God’s help to love each other better.
God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?
The Bible says that showing genuine love for our brothers and sisters is one way we show our worship to God (Romans 12:1, 9). Have you seen someone in our family display real, genuine love this week? What happened? How did this encourage you? When we love others well because we belong to Jesus, we give God glory! Let’s be on the lookout for acts of love in each other’s stories and praise God for these!
A Family Blessing
A Blessing from this Lesson to Speak over Those God has Entrusted to You!
“Father God, You are the author and creator of love, and You have called us to love. May my child(ren) have love for You and others written in their entire story. May I set an example for love, so that together we will worship You through love in all we do. In Your Name Jesus, amen!”
