Lets Talk About… Being Liked

Being Liked

First, Seek Him...

We live in a divided world in which we’re never going to win everyone’s “likes.” Still, God wants us to be loving and faithful in ways that honor Him and draw people to us. What do these traits look like in our lives? May God show us as we seek Him!

...Then Speak Him

As we seek the Lord about being loving and faithful people, then we can guide our kids in that. We aren’t necessarily looking for “likes” the same ways they are, but we can disciple them about what’s most important in gaining peoples’ affections. Speak Him!

Proverbs 3:3-4
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you…write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”

God, what are you saying to me?

God wants love and faithfulness written in the deepest parts of our lives. To be loving is to seek what’s best for others, not just ourselves. To be faithful is to be reliable and trustworthy. This is how God wants us to earn a “good name” – or “likes” – with people. So let’s talk:  Are you known for being loving and faithful? How? Do you think people like these character traits? Why? What does it mean to have a “good name”?

God, why does this matter?

We all like to be liked, don’t we? Sometimes we may do things we know are wrong to earn “likes” though. This Scripture reminds us that God doesn’t want us to try to be liked by doing wrong; God wants our character to reflect His. Then, whether people like us or not, we will have His favor. So, how much does it matter to you to be “liked”? What are you willing to do or compromise in order to be liked? Does God’s opinion of you matter as much to you as peoples’ opinions of you? Be honest!

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

The Bible says that Jesus “grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). We can grow like Jesus did! This doesn’t mean everyone is going to like us in this broken world, but it does mean we’ll be the kind of people who have favor with God. What kind of person do you want to be? Does it matter to you if you are “liked” by both people AND God? Why do you think favor with God matters?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

The whole verse of Proverbs 3:3 reads, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” We can worship God by wearing love and faithfulness like scarves around our necks and by writing them like pages in our hearts. What can we wear or write to remind us of love and faithfulness today? Let’s take a few moments to talk about what we “like” about each other.

Proverbs 3:3-4
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you…write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”

A Family Blessing

A Blessing from this Lesson to Speak over Those God has Entrusted to You!

May love and faithfulness be written deep in your heart. May you be like Jesus and “grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). I pray that you will have God’s greatest favor on your life as you live for His “likes”! In Jesus’ Name, amen!
