My Story of God’s Goodness in My Life
Lesson Three of Four- JOY in God’s Blessings
First, Seek Him!
God promises so many blessings of JOY for those who Seek Him. Have you ever pondered what those are? His JOY is unlimited, unfathomable. Whatever you are walking through today, turn your eyes and heart to Him and ask Him to show you His JOY for you. It’s there – He promises.
Then, Speak Him!
As you see His JOY in your life, turn around and share that Joy Story with those entrusted to you. Sharing JOY multiplies JOY! Talk about the great things God has done. Even if this is a hard season, He is good. Take time to Seek Him Speak Him today!

What Does The Bible Say?
This Week’s Memory Verse:
Psalm 126:3 – “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with JOY.” (NIV)
(the bolded words are our memory portion of this verse)
What Truth is God Speaking to Us?
“The JOY filling your story is My goodness in your life. Remember the great things I have done for you.” ~ God
What Truth is God Speaking to Us Through His Word?
God, I want to experience all the great things You have for my JOY story! Please teach me all the ways I can experience Your goodness in my life!
What Can We Learn About This Truth?
JOY is gladness in our hearts because of God’s goodness in our lives. God fills us with JOY in His presence, and He gives gifts of JOY even to those who don’t acknowledge His presence. The amazing thing is that, when we make our story about His story, He has even more JOY to give us, more JOYs than we can even count. He is such a good God!
What Else Does the Bible Say About This?
JOY is not just a one-time experience; JOY is something that keeps coloring our lives when we live for Jesus. JOY comes from God, and we get to experience even more of His JOY when we walk through life with Him. Here’s a way to think about it:
If you were given a coloring book then had a choice between an 8-, 24- or 64-count box of crayons to go with it, which box would you choose? Give me a brand new 64-count box of crayons, please!
If a coloring book is a symbol of life, God gives each of us one in which to color the pages of our stories. And with the life He gives us, God hands us creation’s JOYS – like an 8-count box of crayons – to enrich and color our days. Every person gets to experience JOYS like sunrises and sunsets, food and water, air and rainbows, family and children, even if he or she doesn’t believe in God. God is generous to all people, as Scripture says, “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45).
God is so kind to all. But what’s more, when we choose to make our story about God’s story, we get to experience even more of His blessings! You could say that, when we walk with Jesus, He doesn’t just give us an 8-count box of JOY. He gives us JOY upon JOY upon JOY, kind of like being given a 64-count box of joys! The Bible speaks of JOY over 240 times, in more ways than we can even count. These are God’s great things that fill us with JOY. And Jesus helps us color the pages of our lives with these JOYS.
When Jesus’ mother Mary realized all God’s goodness in her life, she began to sing and praise, saying, “My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is His Name” (Luke 1:46-49 NIV). Mary echoed the words of our theme verse, joyful words that were written even generations before her: “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with JOY” (Psalm 126:3).
God writes great JOY upon JOY into the story of every person who chooses to be in His presence and follow Him. I want His JOYs to color my life and fill my story. What about you?
How Can We Live Out This Truth?
If the “J” of JOY is for Jesus and the “O” of JOY is for Others, then the “Y” of JOY stands for YOU! As you follow Jesus’ path every day, God has many blessings of JOY for YOU!
What are some of those blessings? Look up the word “JOY” in the Bible and read through some of the references, or read “The Poem of Joy” (found in the downloadables at the bottom of this web page). See if you can count all the gifts of JOY. Chances are, you’re going to realize that God’s JOYs are way more than a 64-count box!
As you think about God’s “great things” in your “JOY STORY,” get out a box of crayons and – color by color – draw a picture praising God for what He has done and is doing for you! And guess what? Praising Him will bring even more JOY, because practicing gratitude builds JOY!
What Questions Do We Have About This?
What are some of the JOYs that God has given everybody? (think of some of the JOYs of creation)
Is God generous to all people?
What does He give those who make their story about His story? (even more JOYs)
