My Story of God’s Goodness in My Life

Lesson Two of Four- JOY in God’s Creation

First, Seek Him!

Have you ever thought about who gets to have JOY? The Bible teaches that God is so good that He shares elements of joy with everybody. Everybody! Since He is that generous, even with people who don’t believe in Him, how might you make others matter, too? “Seek Him” about this today!

Then, Speak Him!

When God impacts your life with His joy, that becomes part of your Jesus Story! Talk to those entrusted to you about this! Tell them about what God is done! Enjoy the beauty of creation with them and give Him praise! This is how you can “Speak Him” today!

What Truth is God Speaking to Us?

Wisdom

What Truth is God Speaking to Us Through His Word?

God, where does JOY come from, and who gets to have JOY? How do people who don’t believe in You experience JOY? Show us Your perspective on JOY! Amen!

Welcome

What Can We Learn About This Truth?

JOY is gladness in our hearts because of God’s goodness in our lives. God is so kind to share His goodness with all humanity. Full, complete JOY is found with Jesus, yet the testimony of JOY is found in everything God has made. All creation’s JOYS point to Him! And just like He is kind to everybody, we can experience JOY in our stories by making others matter, too!

Weavings

What Else Does the Bible Say About This?

The “J” of JOY is for Jesus, and the “O” of JOY stands for “Others.” Our God is so kind to share His goodness with all people to enjoy.

Think about what you liked today. Did you enJOY the sunshine? God made it (Matthew 5:45). Did you enJOY a meal? He sent the rain to grow it (Acts 14:17). Did you enJOY some special people? God created them (Acts 17:25)!

God made the oceans (Acts 14:15), heavens (Psalm 121:1-3), mountains (Amos 4:13) rainbows (Genesis 9:9-17) and so much more. These good gifts fill our lives with JOY. They are also His witnesses, declaring His glory day after day, telling the message that He is a great, glorious and kind God (Psalm 19). He shares all these things with all people, so that “they might feel their way toward him and find him” (Acts 17:27).

The Bible says, “The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made” (Psalm 145:9). The Bible also says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father…” (James 1:17). Good gifts we can think of, like sunshine, flowers, love and friendship, come from God for everybody to enjoy.

Jesus is the One who makes our JOY completely full in His presence, but God is still so good to give JOY in so many ways to every single person in the world.

Our theme verse says, “He has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with JOY” (Acts 14:17). He is such a good God! He “richly provides everything for us to enjoy” (! Timothy 6:17).

God is gracious and kind to others, and we can follow His example. Joy is gladness in our hearts because of God’s goodness in our lives – and we can show our JOY through making others matter in the next chapters of our JOY stories.

Walking

How Can We Live Out This Truth?

Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you that my JOY may be in you and your JOY may be full,” (John 15:11 ESV). The very next thing He said was, “This is my command: love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12 NIV). Just as God lovingly shares good gifts with everyone, Jesus wants us to be generous in love, too. Jesus said this is part of the path to JOY.

You can walk this out in your life starting with the others around you like your family and friends, then including others God sends your way. You can share the blessings you have. You can encourage people who are sad. You can smile, hug and speak life into people. If you truly want a JOY story, write “I will love others” into the chapters of your life. Right now, make a list of people you can share JOY with and how you will live that out this week.
