It Starts with a Conversation

The “Who Is Jesus?” Series:  “The Resurrection and the Life”

The Resurrection and the Life

First, Seek Him...

If we call ourselves Christians, then we really ought to know who Christ is. In John 11:25, He said He is the resurrection and life. What does this mean – – – and how did He prove His claim more than words? Seek Him about who He is in your life! Do YOU believe Him? Why?

...Then Speak Him

Either He is who He says He is – – – or He is not! This is THE most important discipleship conversation you can have with those entrusted to you. Listen to the podcast that goes along with this conversation, then speak Him today!

John 11:25
“Jesus said…‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.’”

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

Jesus said He is “the resurrection and the life.” Words can be just words, but Jesus proved His words by raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11:43-45). Then, just days later after His crucifixion, Jesus raised Himself from the dead. He calls us to believe He is who He says He is and can do what He says He can do. ~ How did Jesus prove He is the “resurrection and the life”? Do you believe Jesus? How does this affect you?

God, why does this matter?

We will all die someday, and we cannot resurrect ourselves or anybody else from the dead. Knowing this, we have two options in life:  we can live however we want, OR we can live for Jesus who promises real, eternal life. He paid the price for our sins with His death and then resurrected from the dead, showing His power over death and sin. Because He lives, we can have life, too – and life abundantly (John 10:10)! ~ Have you ever seen anyone come back to life? What are the facts about death? Why would you choose to live for yourself however you want? Why would you choose to live for Jesus?

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Jesus said He is “not the God of the dead but of the living” (Luke 20:38). Because Jesus resurrected from the dead, those who believe in Him will rise again, too. “But someone will ask, ‘How are the dead raised?’” (1 Corinthians 15:35). 1 Thessalonians 4 says, “Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus…the dead in Christ will rise first. then we who are alive…will be caught up together with them…and so we will always be with the Lord…encourage one another with these words.” ~ What does the Bible mean when it says “fallen asleep”? Let’s read all of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. What does this passage teach us about what happens after we die? How is this encouraging to you?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

How we respond to Jesus as “the resurrection and the life” is based on whether we trust Him and choose to believe Him. His Word says, “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:11-12). ~ So, do you have the Son in your life? According to John 11:25 (our theme verse), how do you have a relationship with Jesus? Do you believe Jesus? Let’s pray!

John 11:25
“Jesus said…‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.’”
