Revelation 1:8
“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.’”

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

Jesus said He is the “Alpha” and the “Omega.” These are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, like A-Z in ours. To be the beginning and end of something is to be what it is all about. With these words, Jesus was saying that everything is about Him. He went on to say that He is Lord God Almighty, which means He is the one all-powerful God. ~ What does “alpha” and “omega” mean? What does this tell us about Jesus? What does “Almighty” mean? If what Jesus said about Himself is true, why should we worship Him?

God, why does this matter?

Our world worships many gods. Some of these are deities with names, while other false gods are concepts, practices or things. Jesus is different from all of these because He doesn’t claim to be a god. Jesus said He is the Almighty God, the One who has always been, the first and the last, from eternity past to eternity future. This matters because, if He is who He says He is, it affects everything about our lives. ~ What are some gods people worship? Do any of these claim to be the beginning and end? Are any all-powerful? What about Jesus? What did He claim? Why does this affect us?

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Revelation 19:6 says, “Our Lord God Almighty reigns.” Jesus isn’t just a nice idea, a good option beside many options or a possible way amongst many ways. He is on His throne, and every god fails in comparison to Him. Not only is He “King of kings and Lord of lords”(Revelation 19:16), He loves us! Scripture says, God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). ~ Why would our Lord God Almighty love us this much? Is there any other god who died for its followers? Do you have a relationship with Jesus, our Lord God Almighty? Do you want to?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

Just a few verses before our theme verse, Revelation says, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and who keep what is written in it…” (1:3). We can worship God AND receive His blessings by responding to Him the way He calls us to! So, let’s read aloud and listen to what Jesus says about Himself in Revelation 1:1-18. ~ What does Jesus tells us about Himself in this passage? Do you believe Him? Will you follow Him? How is He calling you to live for Him today?

Revelation 1:8
“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.’”
