It Starts with a Conversation

In Everything: Treat Others Well

First, Seek Him...

As the world decides who or what they’re going to be for Halloween, this is a PERFECT time for us to think about who GOD wants us to be. With this conversation guide, we focus on how God wants us to be people who treat others well. What does this look like in your life?

...Then Speak Him!

As you think about living this truth in your own life, talk about it with those entrusted to you. God wants us to be the people He’s called us to be. Whatever your family does in October, it’s an amazing time to have the conversation “In Everything!”

*** Downloadable/printable lesson and verse images are available at the end of this lesson.***

Matthew 7:12 –
“In everything, do to others what
you would have them do to you…” (NIV)

Word

God, What Are You Saying To Me?

“In everything you do, treat others the way you want to be treated.”

Discover: God cares about how we treat others, and He gave us a way to measure whether we treat them right. Our verse is often called “The Golden Rule,” and it challenges us to care about others as much as we care about ourselves.

Dialogue: How do you like to be treated? Share a story about when you were/weren’t treated well and talk about how it made you feel.

Dive In: Say one way you can treat others the way you want to be treated today. Pray that God will help you do this, especially if it’s hard!

Matthew 7:12 –
“In everything, do to others what
you would have them do to you…” (NIV)

Why

God, Why Does This Matter?

“In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12)

Discover: The Bible is a big book, and love is what the whole book “adds up” to. Jesus said that loving God and loving others are the most important things out of everything! (Mark 22:39-40)

Dialogue: Since treating others well and loving them is so important to God, how important ought those be to us? Share a story about how you have loved others and made them matter.

Dive In: Choose a few specific loving things you can do today to treat others well. How might these things “add up” in your own life today?

Matthew 7:12 –
“In everything, do to others what
you would have them do to you…” (NIV)

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3-4)

Discover: Though we live in a selfish culture, God wants His followers to think, not just of themselves, but of others.

Dialogue:  Talk about what making others more important than yourself. Share a story about when have you done this. What happened?

Dive In: God wants us to be on the look-out for other peoples’ needs, so be intentional about this today. If we see a need we can immediately meet – like giving a smile, opening a door, being encouraging- let’s do that! If we see a bigger need, let’s talk about it and figure out a way we can treat those people well.

Matthew 7:12 –
“In everything, do to others what
you would have them do to you…” (NIV)

Worship

GOd, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

Discover: In Everything, we want to be the people God wants us to be. As we keep His commands and love and treat others well, we show love to God, too.

Dialogue:  Apply this to your relationships today at school, work, church or play. If God wants us to love and treat others right “in everything,” how does this truth apply to what we do now and in the days to come?

Dive In: Be intentional this month to make others matter. In the decisions we make, wherever we go, whatever we participate in, choose to love and treat others the way we want to be treated.

Matthew 7:12 –
“In everything, do to others what
you would have them do to you…” (NIV)
