An Anchor for Our Souls: God’s Unchanging Word

God's Unchanging Word

Luke 21:33
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

Word

God, what are you saying to me?

Even consistent things – like sky and ground, heaven and earth – will change and someday pass away. However, Jesus said His words will never change or go away. His words – which we have in the Bible – are an anchor we can hold on to every day of our lives. ~ What are some things that are changing around us right now? Why is it important for us to know God’s Word (the Bible) never changes? How is knowing this truth “an anchor for our souls”? What is a verse or passage you can use to anchor yourself today?

Why

God, why does this matter?

An ancient Greek philosopher named Heraclitus gave us the famous quote, “The only thing that is constant is change.” This was true around 500 B.C. when he said it, and it’s true today. Everything changes, at least, almost everything. In our season of history filled with extraordinary change, we want to look for what is unchanging. Jesus said His Word is one of these things. ~ If what He said about His Word is true, does it make sense to make His Word matter in our lives now? In what ways can we make it matter to us?

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Jesus said, “Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them…is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built” (Luke 6:47-48). ~ What does Jesus want us to do with His Word? What happens when storms come into the life of someone holding onto God’s unchanging Word? Are you this kind of person?

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

Scripture says, “You have been born again…through the living and enduring word of God…the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever” (I Peter 1:23,25). We can worship God by holding onto His unchanging Word, reading it, talking about it, memorizing it and meditating on it. ~ What’s one special way you will worship God through spending time in His Word this week?

Luke 21:33
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
