THE GOSPEL GIFT: Truth #2: God Has the Power to Give Us the Gift We Need

God Has the Power to Give Us the Gift We Need

First, Seek Him...

As much as we’d love to give without limits at Christmas, we know that we are limited. Some gifts are impossible for us to give, but nothing is impossible for God. By His power, He gives us His amazing gift that we cannot give ourselves. Seek Him about this today!

...Then Speak Him

Whether or not those entrusted to you have accepted God’s gift of salvation, “The Gospel Gift” series is the perfect opportunity to talk about it and, hopefully, understand it better. “Speak Him” through this Advent conversation this week!

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited
and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us…”

Word

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

Some Christmas gifts are easy to give; we just buy and wrap them. Other gifts are impossible to give, because we can neither buy nor create them. Salvation is this kind of gift, a gift we cannot give ourselves or each other. God sees our needs and powerfully “raised up a horn of salvation for us.” This is the 2nd “Gospel Gift” truth:  God has the power to give us the gift we need! ~ What kind of gifts do you want to give (or receive) this Christmas? Are these easy, hard or impossible? What kind of gift is salvation?

Why

God, why does this matter?

The phrase “horn of salvation” in our verse is odd to us, but, in Bible times, a horn symbolized power. Sin holds us captive and requires a ransom we cannot pay. Sin is powerful, God is most powerful. By His mighty power, He paid the debt we couldn’t pay to set us free from the power of sin! Nothing is impossible with Him (Luke 1:37), and this the good news of “The Gospel Gift!” ~ What sin(s) hold (or have held) you captive? Can you set yourself free from this? Can God set you free? Why?

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Colossians tells us what God’s mighty power does in our lives:  “When you were dead in your sins…God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which…condemned us. He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross” (2:13-14). We may not like to think about sin and brokenness at Christmas, but God’s power to save us from these is THE good news of Christmas. ~ How does sin bring death into our lives? What did God’s power do for us?

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

The Apostle Paul responded by saying, “I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power” (Ephesians 3:7 NIV). We can respond the same way to “The Gospel Gift.” As God gives us His powerful gift, we have the power to give Him our lives and serve Him with hearts of worship. That’s the ultimate way to say “Thank You” to God! ~ What gift do you have the power to give God? How can YOU serve God and worship Him this week?

Zechariah’s words in Luke 1:68-69a
“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited
and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us…”

A Family Blessing

A Blessing from this Lesson to Speak over Those God has Entrusted to You!

Lord God, nothing is too hard for You! (Jeremiah 32:17). Yours is the kingdom and the power! Thank You for using Your mighty power to free us from the power of sin. May we live in Your freedom! In Jesus’ Name, amen!
