Fall of Praise: A Call for Thanksgiving

Fall Of Praise a Call For Thanksgiving

First, Seek Him...

Despite all that is going on in our world this year, we can choose to focus on God’s faithfulness and respond with lives full of praise. Scripture calls us to thanksgiving. In what challenging area(s) of your life do you need to seek His faithfulness and respond with praise?

...Then Speak Him

We need to intentionally express gratitude and speak God’s praises with those entrusted to us. Instead of focusing on hard times, negative outcomes or unwanted situations, let’s deliberately pause each day this week to thank Him. This is one way we “Speak Him.”

Listen to the Podcast

Isaiah 25:1
“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”

Word

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?
This has been a tough year, but God’s faithfulness to us is perfect. He wants us to praise Him in all the “wonderful things” He has done, even if they don’t feel “wonderful” right now. He wants us to trust that He has a master plan which He will reveal in His time. We may not understand God’s plans in the here and now, but we are called to praise Him in them anyway. ~ In what areas of your life it is difficult to trust God right now? How can you “praise” Him in the midst of challenging circumstances today?

Why

God, why does this matter?
When things go well, it’s easy to give people (or ourselves!) credit for the good circumstances. Then, when things don’t go the way we want them to, it’s easier to complain or blame than to “praise.” We lose sight of God either way, but Isaiah the prophet calls us back to thanksgiving which focuses us on Him. This matters because, when we choose to remember God’s faithfulness, our attitudes and hearts change. ~ Where have we seen God’s faithfulness this year? Where do we see Him at work right now?

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?
God’s Word calls us to praise Him through all of life’s circumstances. Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Ancient Job said, “…The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21). And, King David said, “Every day I will bless your name and praise you forever and ever” (Psalm 145:2). None of these people had easy lives, but each trusted God’s plan for them and praised Him through it all. ~ What are some challenges that Paul, Job or David faced but trusted God through? What do their examples teach us about praise, thanksgiving and trust?

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?
This week, let’s make our highest focus to be gratitude and thanksgiving instead of negative outcomes, continuing problems or unwanted situations. It’s not that we don’t think about these things; it’s that they don’t completely rule us. Let’s glorify God by intentionally turning our thoughts toward His goodness with daily conversations of praise. Scripture says “in perfect faithfulness (He has) done wonderful things” – lots of things! ~ What can we praise God for today?
Isaiah 25:1
“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”

A Family Blessing

A Blessing from this Lesson to Speak over Those God has Entrusted to You!

Oh Lord, may our lives be full of praise to You in ALL circumstances. May we our “hearts be glad” and may “our whole being rejoice” in Your faithfulness to us (Psalm 16:9). We love You so much Jesus. In Your Name, amen!
