Family Disciple Me responds to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

It Starts with a Conversation

EASTER SEASON:  Follow Jesus

First, Seek Him...

As Jesus walked toward the cross, He called His disciples to follow Him through both their good days and the bad days. This week of Good Friday, His call echoes to us. As we ponder His sacrifice on the cross, let’s “Seek Him” about how He’s called us to follow Him in this season.

...Then Speak Him

“Speak Him” during Good Friday week by pointing your family and friends to remember what Jesus did for us. Engage this conversation with the next generation. Help them know why Good Friday matters to you; talk to them about how YOU follow Jesus because of it.
John 12:26
Jesus said: “Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves Me.”

Word

God, what are you saying to me?
From Palm Sunday to Good Friday, Jesus walked a challenging path. Some days were exciting and happy, like Palm Sunday as so many people praised Him. But other days were excruciating, like Good Friday – a day that became so good for humanity but was oh-so-hard for Jesus. Before He walked this path, Jesus challenged His disciples to follow Him through both the good days and the bad days. What type of days are we in right now? Does Jesus want us to follow Him in this?

Why

God, why does this matter?
It’s easy to lose sight of our purpose as believers when life is hard, but Jesus calls us to follow Him through it all. As we follow Him, He will show us how to serve Him and live our purpose. However, we can’t follow Jesus unless we keep our eyes on Him. We do this through spending time with Him, reading His Word, worshipping Him and talking to Him. How are each of us following Jesus this week? How are we following Him as a family in this season?

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?
Jesus told His disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Jesus said these words then, just days later, He literally took up His own cross for our sake. His physical cross was a very heavy, painful burden, and it may be that our cross is a very difficult burden right now, too. Is there a specific cross Jesus is asking you to bear during this season? In what ways must you deny yourself and your desires in order to carry it for Him?

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?
God is so kind because He always blesses obedience! In our memory verse, Jesus promised that God will honor those who follow Him and serve Him. As we ponder His death on the cross this week, how is He calling us to follow Him and serve Him? What blessings have we experienced as we’ve done this in recent days? (Take a moment to encourage one another and pray for each other.)
John 12:26
Jesus said: “Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves Me.”

A Family Blessing

A Blessing from this Lesson to Speak over Those God has Entrusted to You!

Lord Jesus, we can’t fathom the enormity of Your sacrifice on the cross for us. Our hardship pales in comparison to what You endured for our salvation. We thank You and bless You, and we want to honor You by following You all the days of our lives. In Your Name, amen!
