It Starts with a Conversation

DESTINATIONS: Self or Savior?

First, Seek Him...

Every step of our lives is affected by whether we choose the path of self or the path of our Savior. If our hearts belong to Jesus, then everywhere we go and everything we do should be affected by His leadership in our lives. Seek Him about this in your journey!

...Then Speak Him

Are those entrusted to you living for themselves or their Savior? Use this conversation to discuss what it means to give our lives to Jesus. Talk about salvation, then talk about how – if we call Jesus our Savior – we can set our paths toward Him. Speak Him today!

Philippians 3:19b-20
“Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

Everything about your life is affected by whether you live for yourself or your Savior. This choice determines the ultimate destination of your life and every step along the way. People living for themselves focus on “earthly things” the most, but people living for their Savior put Him first. You’ll know if Jesus is in first place in your heart if you’re seeking His path in your life. ~ Who or what is in first place for you? What does it mean to have Jesus as your Savior? Have you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior?

God, why does this matter?

If your life is about yourself and your mind is “set on earthly things,” every step you make and path you take will be according to what you want and decide is best. However, if you choose to live for your Savior, then you’ll “eagerly await” His voice and follow His path. You’ll do what He calls you to do, and you’ll walk toward the destinations where He leads you. ~ What do you think “earthly things” refers to? Are all “earthly things” bad? Do you think about Jesus and His way very much? How much? Why or why not?

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

God’s Word encourages us to make Jesus our life focus. Colossians 3:1-2 says, “Since… you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above… not on earthly things.” This doesn’t mean we can’t have things that matter to us here in this world. However, even good earthly things are to be second in our hearts compared to our Savior who told us “Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me” (Matthew 16:24).. ~ What are some practical ways we can “set our hearts on things above” and follow Jesus today?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” That’s a great promise, but it requires submitting your “self” to your “Savior.” This may be hard sometimes, but God rewards us when we acknowledge Him in every path along life’s way. ~ Are you willing to do this? Are you willing to submit yourself to Jesus? Will you follow the path of His Word and let Him guide you toward His destinations?

“Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
