The Heart // Mind // Body Decisions Decision Three: “My Body”

First, Seek Him...

As we focus our hearts on the Lord and our minds on how He would have us think, we begin to know how He wants us to use our bodies. Let’s seek Him about this decision!

...Then Speak Him

Let’s encourage the next generation that our bodies are created to enjoy life as well as to glorify God. We can do both of these simultaneously when our decisions line up with His Word!

Listen to the Podcast

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable.”

Word

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

“God’s will” or plan for us is to “learn to control” our bodies. This means we don’t just do whatever we think about or feel like. Instead, it means we learn to live in a way that is “holy and honorable” to Him! ~ What does “holy” mean? What does “honorable” mean? Why would God want us to live this way?

Why

God, why does this matter?

The world wants us to learn many, many things about our bodies except how “to control” them. However, God wants His people “be sanctified,” which means “set apart” or different from the world. ~ Why does it matter for you to “learn to control your own body”? Does this matter to God?

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Scripture says enjoy life but know you are accountable for how you enjoy it. Ecclesiastes 11:9 says, “You who are young, be happy while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.” ~ What does this verse tell you about how you live and use your body? Must you fear God’s judgment if you live by His Word? Does God want you to be happy?

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

I eagerly expect and hope that I will…have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body…” (Philippians 1:20). It takes courage to make God more important than ourselves, but we can do this when we understand His good plan for all aspects of our lives, including our bodies.  ~ What courageous decisions can you make about your body for Jesus today? Can you put yourself 2nd?

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable.”
