Family Disciple Me responds to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

It Starts with a Conversation with our Loved Ones During Quarantine

Homeschool

First, Seek Him...

Perhaps one of the biggest shifts during this pandemic is the way kids do school. Where most families sent their kids TO school, now home is school. This didn’t catch God by surprise. Believe it or not, His Word has something to say to parents and grandparents about school-at-home. Seek Him about this today!

...Then Speak Him

Just like God’s Word speaks to the older generation about teaching, it talks to kids about listening and learning. As you let God speak into your heart, speak Him into your kids’ lives. Talk about what His Word says. We all have something to learn, together, in this season. Seek Him Speak Him today!
Proverbs 1:8 NET
“Listen, my child, to the instruction from your father, and do not forsake the teaching from your mother.”

WORD:  God, what are You saying to me?

School-at-home is unexpected for many families this year. However we started education this school year, we are all ending it in our kitchens and living rooms instead of classrooms. This took some of us by surprise, but it didn’t take God by surprise. His Word says a lot about parents teaching and kids learning. What does homeschool look like for our family in this season? What has changed? What hasn’t changed?

WHY:  God, why does this Scripture matter?

It is not easy to shift gears and transition from one learning style or environment to another. This can feel overwhelming for parents and frustrating for kids. However, from the very beginning, God called parents and grandparents to teach the next generation and kids to pay attention and learn. We could say that Deuteronomy 6:4-7 instituted homeschool along life’s way. God gives this power, authority and ability to all His people – young and old. How does this encourage YOU in your school-at-home responsibilities right now (be that teaching or learning)?

WHAT: God, what else does Your Word say to me about this?

The book of Proverbs repeatedly encourages kids to listen to their parents’ teaching and guidance. In Proverbs 2:1-12, King Solomon told his son of the promises and blessings for children who listen to their parents’ instruction. Then King Lemuel wrote his famous chapter Proverbs 31, repeating the words “that his mother taught him” (v. 1).  Parents and grandparents, how are you trying to teach right now? Kids, how are you willing to listen and learn?

WORSHIP: God, how do You want me to respond to this truth?

We worship God through how we obey His Word – even as it applies to school-at-home! Parents worship God by teaching and leading; kids worship Him by diligently listening, learning and doing their best. We’re in this together, so let’s all worship the Lord by doing our part to homeschool during this unique, crazy moment in history. Let’s spend a few moments praying over our school-at-home right now!

A Family Blessing

Lord God, help us all to do our very best in homeschool for however long this season lasts for our family. Help us learn and grow in unexpected ways as we press in together. In Your Name Jesus, amen!
