The “LOVE LIKE THIS” Series

Care for People In Need

Care For People In Need

First, Seek Him...

It’s one thing to say we love Jesus; it’s another thing to show it by how we treat people in need. Jesus made very clear that what we do for “the least of these” matters to Him. What does caring for others look like in your life? Seek Him about this today!

...Then Speak Him

We get to model to the next generation how to care for people in need. As they see us care, they learn how to care. Along the way, what a great discipleship conversation to have – talking about the why and how we do this. Speak Him today!

Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:35-36a,40
“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me…whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Word

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

If we love Jesus, then we will show it by caring for others. We can love in tangible, practical ways like giving food, water, hospitality and even clothing to people in need. The acts of love we do for others are like acts of love we do for Jesus Himself. When we bless others, we bless Him! ~ Can you describe a time when someone cared for you because they loved Jesus? Let’s read all of Matthew 25:31-40. What is one thing Jesus speaking to YOU through this passage?

Why

God, why does this matter?

We will give an account to God for how we lived our lives and served “the least of these.” This phrase doesn’t mean they’re not important; it means they need our kindness. Caring for people in need is so significant to Jesus that He notices and takes it personally. What’s more, it matters so much to Him that He promises to reward us when we love like this. ~ Did you know Jesus has a blessing in store for you when you bless others? Who are “the least of these” in our family’s life or community? Why should we care?

What

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

James says, “If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?” (2:15-16). What good IS that, indeed! Thing is, serving “the least of these” can be as simple as giving “a cup of cold water” in Jesus’ Name (Matthew 10:42). He told us to care, not just for our friends and family, but for those who “cannot repay you” (Luke 14:14). ~ Why does generosity matter to Jesus? What are some practical ways we can be generous to those who can’t repay us?

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

God wants us to “LOVE LIKE THIS: Care for People in Need.” As we talk about love this month, let’s put this kind of love into action! We bless Jesus when we bless others through even the simplest things in life, so let’s show generous, caring love! ~ What Christian ministries in our area help the needy? How could we serve with them? Who can our family personally help this week? Let’s ask God to lead us!
