An Algorithm With an Amen: Choose A Godly Life

Choose A Godly Life

First, Seek Him...

Our inner algorithms work their way out into our everyday lives that others see and are affected by. God’s Word encourages us to live such good, godly lives that even if unbelievers don’t like us or accuse us, that can’t help but glorify God because of us. Seek Him about this in your life!

...Then Speak Him

This topic is the perfect opportunity to disciple the next generation about what a godly life looks like for their ages and stages. Engage the conversation, talk about where you have made the choices of a godly life, and share your Jesus story! Speak Him today!

1 Peter 2:12
“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

The inner algorithms of choosing God and choosing His ways result in a godly life that is so visibly “good” that even the “pagans” – or, unbelievers – around us may take notice. “Good lives” with “good deeds” are evidence that Jesus is working in us and through us for His glory. ~ Do we do good deeds just for the sake of being nice? Do good deeds get us to heaven? What is God’s purpose for good deeds?

God, why does this matter?

People may not like us; they may even accuse us of doing wrong. However, choosing a godly life glorifies God and can point others to Him. This matters very much because we want others to know Jesus, too! ~ Is there anyone who doesn’t like you or is accusing you right now? What are some of your “good deeds” toward them? How does choosing a godly life help others see Jesus through you?

God, What Else Does Your Word Say About This?

Scripture gives “algorithms” of what “good lives” and “good deeds” should look like.  Our key passage in 1st Peter is applicable right now and always:  “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority:  whether to the emperor…or to the governors…Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor” (2:13-17). We may not want to submit to authority, respect certain people, love other people, or honor any given leader. However, because we choose God and choose His ways, we choose to live by the “algorithms” of a godly life. ~ How do the five specifics in this passage apply to us today? Which are a struggle? What do we do when it’s hard to live a godly life?

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

We glorify God by living “good lives” full of “good deeds.” This results in a godly life in which every area is an act of worship. Jesus said that if we love Him, we’ll obey Him (John 14:15). We’ll live by His algorithms and standards He defines in His Word. As a result, our lives will truly reflect “an algorithm with an amen,” for His glory and our good. ~ Do our lives glorify God right now? What is your life pointing to in this season?

1 Peter 2:12
“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.”
