Discipleship Starts with a Conversation

A Call to Family Discipleship

“An Intro Conversation for Why and How”

Seek Him Speak Him The great Invitation

Discipleship is a big topic; it’s also a very intimidating topic. Unfortunately, too often, we feel like we have to be “somebody” in the spiritual world before we have the right or authority to disciple others about the Lord. That’s not what the Bible teaches us, though. Truth is, when God established His people as a nation, He told them two specific things: to love Him and to tell their kids about Him. His Word in Deuteronomy 6 is so very specific about how and why we should do this. I must say, studying this passage revolutionized the way I live my life; I think that, as you “Seek Him” about this, it will revolutionize the way you “Speak Him” too! You can listen to the podcast about this here or you can simply focus on the following Scripture and specifically listen to what God has to say to you through it. God bless you, friend, as you meet with Him in your own life then make Him known in your family and relationships! Be encouraged! Tosha ❤️

Deuteronomy 6:5-7
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
Seek Him!
Every person has the opportunity to seek the Lord. Right now, let’s do a devotion and “Seek Him” through this passage of Scripture!

As Christ followers, our lives are to be about more than ourselves. God wants us to love Him then diligently tell the next generation about Him. What does devotion and discipleship look like in your life and family? This conversation guide is for you to “Seek Him” about this!

Word

God, what are you saying to me through this Scripture?

God wants His people to be devoted to Him then talk about Him. Simply put, “devotion” is how we love God and “discipleship” is how we share Him with others. We “Seek Him” with all our heart, souls and strength, then, we “Speak Him” into the precious lives of those He has entrusted to us. ~ What about you? Do YOU love the Lord? Who in the next generation are you telling about Him?

Why

God, why does this matter?

Deuteronomy 6:2-3 says this matters, So that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord… by keeping all his decrees and commands… so that you may enjoy long life…so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly…” Discipleship comes with God’s promises of blessing, not just for us but for the generations to come. ~ Does discipleship matter to you the way God wants it to? Have you experienced God’s blessings in this? Where are you in this journey?

What

God, What else does your word say about this?

In the Old Testament, God told families to talk about Him. Then, in the New Testament, Jesus said: “Go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19-20). Christ’s Great Commission for the nations can begin with the discipleship conversations in our own families. ~ Who are the “nations” entrusted to you? What kind of conversations are you having with them?

Worship

God, How do you want me to respond to this truth?

The Psalmist responded, “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord…” (78:4)). The WHY of discipleship is love and obedience; the HOW of discipleship is simply to impress His truth on our kids along life’s way (Deuteronomy 6:7). A discipleship conversation can be as simple as sharing what you’ve experienced with the Lord with someone else. ~ Will you commit to this truth?

Speak Him!

Once we “Seek Him,” we can “Speak Him” into the lives of the people God has entrusted to us. This is what discipleship is!

Discipleship isn’t a formula or a class; it is a lifestyle that simply starts with a conversation. “Seek Him” through the WORD, WHY, WHAT and WORSHIP of this week’s Scripture, then “Speak Him” today!
